position of privilege?


Right, so being a foreigner (i.e. alien) in Japan is kind of like being a Star Trek character on a Borg ship...you'll never be assimilated into the collective, even if you look, talk and act the same as everybody else...you are able however to do anything at all whenever you feel like it and everyone will simply accept this behaviour because "oh, he's foreign...that's what they do in his culture"
I can walk down the street kicking people in the face and that will basically be okay because I'm a foreigner and foreigners do strange things like that...even as I get used to the insanity of this place, it never ceases to make no sense at all
